The long tradition and rich history of Douwe Egberts coffee began more than 260 years ago, in the small village of Joure in the Netherlands, by Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses who opened a small grocery store called De Witte Os.
In this grocery shop, which marked the Douwe Egberts coffee shop as we know it today, Egbert and Akke traded their products, the main ones being coffee, tea and tobacco.
